9th Grade Timeline

Fall:

  • Attend freshman orientation and become acclimated to your new school.

  • Use an organizer or app to stay organized from the beginning as assignments, projects, tests and quizzes will need to be mapped out.

  • Attend Activity Fair, usually two to three weeks after the start of your school year. Sign up for clubs for a few clubs that are of interest.

Winter:

  • Use curriculum guide and map out courses for sophomore year.

  • Meet with school counselor and pick classes for 10th grade.

  • Keep up with school work.

  • Get involved with activities outside of the classroom that relate to your natural strengths.

  • Do well on midterms. Study and attend review sessions.

  • Follow up with teachers on any missed work or extra help when needed.

  • Be accountable.

Spring:

  • Design and create a resume.

  • Apply for summer jobs.

  • Create an academic portfolio/folder to organize your best work: essays, awards, projects, artwork, scholarships.

  • Attend College Fair(s) at your High School or in your local area.

  • Browse through college websites and literature to become familiar with potential schools of interest.

  • Volunteer in your community.

  • Do something you like and that’s meaningful during the summer months leading into your sophomore year.

  • Continue being accountable for your understanding of content. Attend extra help sessions and let your teachers know you care.

  • Finish the year strong both in and out of the classroom.
